Hermaphrodite is a visual and music collaborative project by the artist Cen Jun and the musician Yue Xuan. Not only an exploration of the artists’ inner world, the project is also an opportunity for the two artists to not only interpret the world and the universe, but also comment on issues in society.
“The world is more diverse than we assume with undiscovered possibilities in the areas of gray. We can read about these ideas in traditional Chinese philosophy, and can easily find hermaphroditic phenomenon in the ecosystem. How can we arrogantly ignore the beauty hidden in the shade?”
This album is not an ordinary one that the audience may expect. The art and the music in it are like monologues in the artists’ minds. Monologues are constructed into dialogue in this album. And the artists are eager to share this conversation with whoever reads it, touches it and listens to it.
